The Institute of Communication Studies is a leading research organization in the field of journalism and media studies, public relations and corporate communications. Our mission is to contribute towards strengthening of Macedonian democracy by working with media, civil society and public institutions, educating a critical public that will ask for greater transparency and accountability through engagement in the policy creation process.


News and Digital Literacy Project: Where Fake News Fails

Project Purpose

The goal of the project is to promote literacy for news and digital literacy, to improve the effectiveness, responsibility and ethical behavior of citizens and journalists in the digital space.

The project will help CSOs more effectively deal with false news and unethical media reporting, and social media users will get new resources through which they will gain knowledge of becoming an informed audience that can critically access online news. Also, the project will encourage debate on news literacy and digital literacy among journalists, with an emphasis on economic and social conditions for the promotion of freedom of expression.

The activities are designed to help strengthen the knowledge and capacities of the target groups, so that they can further promote literacy for news and digital literacy, both in the media industry and among the wider audience. Some of them provide training, mentoring and reintegration of civil society organizations, preparation of a social media strategy, as well as research on the motivations of the users of social media and various educational resources (videos, tutorials, blog posts, online quizzes). In addition, campaigns and media events intended for social media users, journalists and civil society organizations will be organized, an annual media award will be organized to promote journalism in the public interest and monthly publications for media professionals will be published.
