High school students learned about storytelling through film
More than 100 young creatives made short videos at the Short Feature and Documentary Film Workshops at the Giffoni Youth Film Festival, which took place from October 4 to 8, in Skopje.
The Short Feature Film Workshop guided high school students from idea development, through filming, to post-production, while introducing them to dramaturgical and visual elements such as plot, color, shots and editing. Participants worked to create stories with a classic three-act structure, visually expressed with precise film grammar.
In the parallel Short Documentary Workshop, young authors explored how documentarians use space and emotion to create location drama. They were trained in the creative use of camera, light and sound, thus capturing the character of the chosen location and bringing their own perspective to the documentary style of storytelling.
Divided into teams, the workshop participants created 24 videos in which they applied the filmmaking techniques and skills learned.

The workshops were organized by the Institute of Communication Studies and IREX as part of the USAID Media Literacy Project “YouThink”.
