The environmental situation in the Republic of Macedonia is profoundly ambivalent. On the one hand, the country has numerous and very significant environmental values and world natural heritage, and on the other, for decades there has been poor management of nature, abuse of natural resources, and an absence of a strategic approach to solving environmental problems and challenges. On top of all these environmental issues, there is one more added problem: the lack of publicly available information, scientific facts, and understanding of the real state of the environment. There are many environmental issues that are rarely discussed, and when they are mentioned, the public discourse is filled with incorrect information. In the special research issue “The Environmental Challenges in Macedonia: Steps Towards Sustainable Development,” these kinds of topics are covered. The fight for a better environment is fought on a wide front, where everyone is contributing as much as possible toward building a better future. With this special issue, the Institute of Communication Studies is presenting how science communication can contribute to the creation of solid information.
