The Institute of Communication Studies is a leading research organization in the field of journalism and media studies, public relations and corporate communications. Our mission is to contribute towards strengthening of Macedonian democracy by working with media, civil society and public institutions, educating a critical public that will ask for greater transparency and accountability through engagement in the policy creation process.

Research and Analysis

The survey covered two aspects: The perception of the functioning of public institutions in the aforementioned areas, primarily the opinions of citizens on the transparency, inclusiveness and accountability of public institutions. Citizens' views on specific measures in the areas in which the public campaign will be conducted (water resources management and inspection of the management of mineral resources, forests, soils and waters).

The public policy document serves as a tool in the advocacy and lobbying campaign „Clear it up“, which aims to influence the decision making process and calls the target audience to action in the area of water management. The document includes data and insights into the current water management problems that require immediate attention and offer alternative solutions and specific problem solving recommendations. The document is based on research and interviews with experts in the relevant area.

The School for Journalism and Public Relations, with the support of the Bureau for Development of Education, carried out the research "Media Literacy in Macedonia: Efforts for Implementation in the Elementary Education", in order to determine how this concept is treated in the curricula and programs, what forms of acquiring media literacy are used (didactic materials, teaching means, spatial conditions, etc.) and what is the education of media literacy teachers.

The “Handbook on how to communicate more effectively with the citizens through digital media: A Handbook for CSOs” provides an overview of the opportunities offered by digital media versus the traditional media. In addition, it looks at how digital media can help the CSOs to promote their activities, projects and initiatives. The Handbook also contains practical tips for creating effective messaging, audience segmentation, and tips on which digital tools are most appropriate for certain audiences, how to easily measure the impact of the social media and how to develop a social media plan that will help the CSOs reach their

The policy paper focuses on the challenges and issues the journalism is facing in the digital age. The document provides an overview of legislation in this area, a review of cases from practice and recommendations on how the media and journalists can report professionally and ethically.

The document provides an overview of the European and Macedonian legislation in this area, and also provides an overview of cases from the practice, as well as recommendations for effective and systematic handling of hate speech.
