The Institute of Communication Studies is a leading research organization in the field of journalism and media studies, public relations and corporate communications. Our mission is to contribute towards strengthening of Macedonian democracy by working with media, civil society and public institutions, educating a critical public that will ask for greater transparency and accountability through engagement in the policy creation process.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Marina Tuneva

MARINA TUNEVA is a PhD in Cultural Studies, whose dissertation is on “The role of communication strategies in multicultural societies: case study Ohrid Framework Agreement.” She holds a master’s degree from the Institute of Security, Defense, and Peace at the Faculty of Philosophy in Skopje, and completed postgraduate studies in diplomacy at the University of Malta. She graduated from the interdisciplinary journalism studies at the University of St. Cyril and Methodius in Skopje. In 2021, she received a Certificate for successful completion of the Distinguished Humphrey Fellowship Program for Media and Information from the US Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.

Marina Tuneva has been the Executive Director of the Media Ethics Council of Macedonia from 2015 until 2022. Since 2008 she has been a lecturer at the School of Journalism and Public Relations. As an expert in the field of public relations, reporting on diversity, intercultural communications, and ethics in journalism, she is actively involved in numerous consultancy and research projects in these areas in the country and internationally.

She is the author of several publications, among which, “International Actors, Conflict in Macedonia in 2001 and Peace Journalism”, “Public Relations and Interculturalism: Communication and Information on the Ohrid Framework Agreement”, “Guidelines for Inclusive Reporting on the Pandemic”. “Media, Citizens, and Intercultural Communications”, “Guide for Reporting on Diversity”, “Introduction to Public Relations”, etc.
