The Institute of Communication Studies is a leading research organization in the field of journalism and media studies, public relations and corporate communications. Our mission is to contribute towards strengthening of Macedonian democracy by working with media, civil society and public institutions, educating a critical public that will ask for greater transparency and accountability through engagement in the policy creation process.

Prof. Vesna Shopar

VESNA SHOPAR has received her PhD from the Faculty of Law at the University “Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje. She holds a master’s degree from the Institute for Sociological and Political-Legal Research in Skopje. Professor Shopar works in the fields of mass media, public opinion, intercultural communication, information and communication theories and systems, media law, business communication, politics and media. She started her educational activity at the Faculty of Law – Department of Journalism at the University “Ss. Cyril and Methodius University (1993/4), and then engaged in postgraduate studies at the Institute for Sociological and Political-Legal Research (1996-2009) and postgraduate studies at the Institute of Sociology at the Faculty of Philosophy (2001) at the University “St. Cyril and Methodius”. She is currently employed at the School of Journalism and Public Relations. She has been a mentor to several candidates for master’s thesis at the Department of Communications and Business Management, as well as a member of the commissions for evaluation and defense of master’s and doctoral dissertations in the field of political science, communications and business and personnel management.

Professor Shopar has published more than 40 scientific publications, books, monographs, participated in numerous scientific gatherings, conferences and seminars, and participated in more than 30 scientific research projects in the country and abroad. Professor Shopar has been and is a member of numerous organizations and associations in Macedonia and abroad: the Broadcasting Council, the National Media Working Group within the Stability Pact, the Media Development Center, the Macedonian Media Institute, the Media Program Board at the Institute Open Society – Macedonia, Center for Communications, Media and Culture.
